David Spurgeon

The 8th Ward is proud to endorse Judge David L. Spurgeon for Commonwealth Court.

Judge Spurgeon would bring excellent judicial temperament and passion for public service to the Commonwealth Court.  Rated “Highly Recommended” by the Pennsylvania Bar Association, Judge Spurgeon presently serves on the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, Family Division, and he is regularly tapped to preside over matters in civil and orphans court, as well.   A nationally recognized expert on domestic violence, Judge Spurgeon serves as the Chair of the Family Violence Work Group for the 5th Judicial District and was named a Judicial Fellow by the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges for his judicial leadership.  More recently, Judge Spurgeon appeared as a guest expert on Court TV discussing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on family violence.  Judge Spurgeon maintains strong ties to his community and holds nonprofit leadership roles, participates in a local program for teens in underserved communities, and is an adjunct professor at Duquesne University School of Law. Judge Spurgeon has earned the respect of lawyers and members of the bench for his legal expertise, integrity, and temperament.
