Under Brady’s leadership, the City Controller’s office tackled a number of impactful initiatives, including these highlights below:
- reviewed delays in the city’s process for demolishing dangerous properties, recommending a recruitment program to achieve proper staffing levels, a payment collection process, establishment of a system to track and prioritize demolitions, and a plan to work with the courts to facilitate follow up inspections;
- examined the Community Expansion Grant Program and found the City bypassed proper contracting procedures by excluding other possible providers from bidding on the contract;
- studied expenditures received by the city through payments from the Opioid Settlement Funds;
- evaluated declines in public safety staffing levels, finding that public safety personnel is down almost 19 percent from pre-pandemic levels;
- led a special investigation of the Philadelphia’s Homestead Exemption Program that found the city and the School District of Philadelphia are losing a combined $11.4 million through fraud; and
- monitored current spending and progress for the city’s Rebuild program, ensuring an impartial distribution of funding citywide.
Controller Brady has shown rigorous commitment to the people of Philadelphia and is seeking re-election to keep building on the momentum of her first term. The 8th Ward is confident that Controller Brady will continue moving Philadelphia forward in her second term.
